I can't even properly enjoy a game I bought on day 1 anymore without having to wait months for a bunch of patches. That's the problem with the gaming industry these days. WE are the ones who are paying for a product just to playtest it for the devs. Add all of those serious bugs on top of many other minor bugs and it becomes pretty clear that no QA testing was even done. These days, however, the games that are released are not only horribly horribly unoptimized, the bugs are much more apparent and worse, You'll have constant crashes, fps issues, progression bug, savegame system not working, profiles and key items being deleted, important quests breaking. I suppose I'm someone who would rather take a 100 minor bugs over 1 game breaking bug. Very rarely would I encounter anything serious. I was still able to play plenty of games from beginning to end on day 1 (And this includes all the Witcher games, Bethesda games, etc).
Yes, there were games back then that had tons of bugs, but they were usually minor annoyances to me. I've been gaming for more than 30 years now, and I can tell you from experience that games today are in much worse state than they were back then. And those games are made by Nintendo, who if nothing else, are known for how polished all of there games were/are. Just look at how much of a buggy mess N64 games like SM64 are to this day. There was also a much higher tolerance for bugs in the past. The only difference is those games couldn't be patched so they just faded into obscurity and were forgotten. There were hundreds of No Man Sky's level disasters prior to the 2010. ME3 was a complete mess on release performance-wise.

TW3 was even worse than Cyberpunk on release for PC (console is a whole other issue). Pretty much ever Bethesda game ever made was broken game on release. The belief that games are released in worse state now than they were 5-10 years ago is complete nonsense. This has literally been the case ever since the the first system that had online to allow patches after release. If this is the kind of bad practice we're okay with, I fear for the future of gaming.
No repercussions, because they know as long as they eventually fix these bugs (even if it takes up to a year), all is forgiven (or forgotten). Anyone who dares complain are labeled "trolls" or "entitled". There's no excuse for the horrible states that they're being released in.Īlso, I noticed ever since No man's sky, more and more companies are adopting a similar approach as them (in a bad way) - release a broken game without bothering to test it, go radio silent and take their own sweet time fixing it.

Heck, I've played early access games that are more polished than some of these triple A full releases. However, you can't seriously tell me that it hasn't gotten worse lately. Sure, games will always release with some bugs here and there.
